Review: Betatraxx ‘Bootleg’ EP (+Free DL)

I will be the first to admit that I have an invulnerable love affair with dance music. Very often you will find me at parties slowly gravitating toward, if not flat out molesting the loudest speaker in the room. I have even been known to ignore very beautiful women, all for the sake heavy drops and erotic bass tones.
To add insult to injury, there are certain artists that exacerbate this lust and for which I have developed small fetishes: BetatraXx is one of them.

BetatraXx‘s newest EP does nothing but tantalize my ever growing need for funky electro tunes. Starting off with a ‘Daft Punk (Live Edit),’ Mr. Beta keeps it incredibly classy and incredibly catchy. Keeping ‘Aerodynamics’ as the frame work for the edit, BetatraXx samples several Daft Punk classics, making for an all around interesting re-work. While it is hard to mess up a Daft Punk song and nearly impossible to make it any better than the original, Beta’s live mix and mash certainly does the French duo justice.

Speaking of French super duos… BetatraXx expresses his obvious love of the country’s musicians, remixing “We are Your Friends” by the infamous parisian powerhouse, Justice. The track begins super synth like, making for an alluring build up to an almost as sexy drop. I only say ‘almost’ because it is Justice after all, and like Daft Punk when you’re remixing legends it better be legendary! But none the less the track could easily destroy any dance floor.

This EP showcases who BetatraXx has become, while paying homage to a few artists that have clearly inspired the seasoned producer. His third remix of Gregori Klosman’s “Low Battery” is an avenue that I have yet to see Beta fully embrace. The track is a heavy house track with a consistent build up reminiscent of progressive house and trance transitions. However do not let this deter you bass heads, this track is solid and has an exceptionally satisfying release.

As always, I have saved the best for last. The fourth and final track for BetatraXx ‘Bootleg’ EP is simply SEX. The previous three songs above were just foreplay. Metric like Ellie Goulding and Adele has a beautiful voice and happens to make great music. BetatraXx, like very few other producers, has transformed Metric’s “Gold Guns Girls” into an unsuspecting electro jam, containing the perfect amount of funk, grace, and electro flare. It is songs like these that make me ignore deliciously beautiful women at parties!
