Funk Me: (Le Crayon | Gigamesh | A.N.D.Y. | U-Tern | Goldroom) Free DLs!
It’s time for the second installment of Funk Me (make sure to get last weeks tunes here) and I’ve got another batch of free downloads for you. A collection of eight tracks with a distinctly retro 80′s flavor and summer time vibe. Think of them as sun-kissed cassette tapes that were left in the glove box just a little bit too long one weekend.
Oh… and if I’m not absolutely loving life like this Motha’ Fuckin’ P-I-M-P above when I’m fat, old, and retired on south beach; it will be because I spent my time blogging about EDM and generally being an irresponsible leech on society, instead of furthering my career and building a 401K. Thanks for making this all possible, DUBCO fam!
Le Crayon kicks us off with an original that could not have a more fitting title. “Lush” is filled with buttery chords and grinding basslines, throw in a splash of Madeon-style funk and you’ve got my favorite track of the season so far:
The 20 year-old Parisian shines on remixes too; his combination of glittery synths and piercing mid-range electro make the track stand out among the pack:
Matt Mendez – Square (Le Crayon Remix)
Gigamesh‘s remix of “Guide Me” embodies all the good things about the 80′s; slow moving synths, reverb-drenched hand claps, and overblown vocals. But in a way that is surprisingly refreshing:
James Curd – Guide Me (Gigamesh Remix)
A.N.D.Y. turns this Jupiter track into an aggressive, stuttering, toe-tapping mess of nostalgia, dipped in tropical swagger. And I love it:
Jupiter – One o Six (A.N.D.Y. Remix)
Next up, U-Tern‘s slow-burning soulful vocal tune is the perfect poolside soundtrack, that could also absolutely rattle a club sound system:
Goldroom aka Josh Legg creates a bouncy, sunny tune that you’ll be singing along to soon enough. His brand of vintage nu-disco is something that could only hail from a city as glittery as LA:
Niki & The Dove – Mother Project (Goldroom Remix)
Le Youth‘s remix of Goldroom‘s latest single is a pulsing, clap-heavy track. A heavy dose of syncopation and bubbly synths make for a refreshing take on Goldroom’s luscious style:
Goldroom – Angeles (Gigamesh Remix)
And finally, my favorite artist of the week Le Crayon teams up with Oxford for a blend of soulful electric guitar and chunky, colorful, electronic stabs:
Metronomy – Heartbreaker (Le Crayon & Oxford Remix)
Funk off,
-Imarami
