Funk Me: (Lenno | Gigamesh | TheFatRat | Jean Tonique | Justin Faust) Free DLs!
Hey DUBCO fam, my name’s Imarami and I’m here to provide you with something a little different every now and then. I introduced myself last week with the Break Science interview, but this is the first chance I’ve had to share some new music with you. Funk Me will be a weekly column featuring the best in nu-disco, funk, electro-house, and anything else that has some soul. For this week, I’ve put together a list of nine of my favorite tracks from the last year, a group of tracks that make you wish for summer road-trips just as much as sweaty beachside-dances. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the wompage of hard-hitting dubstep as much as the next bro, but there’s something undeniably sexy and hip-shakingly groovy about the reviving disco movement. So strap in, you’re in for a wild ride.

Lenno combines the retro synths of the 80′s with chunky staccato chords from last summer to land us somewhere in the 90′s:
The Wombats – 1996 (Lenno Remix)
Next up, Gigamesh who is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers, provides two tracks; “Tongue Tied” is an indie-summer feel good tune, and his Foster The People remix is nothing short of stelar:
Grouplove – Tongue Tied (Gigamesh Remix)
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (Gigamesh Remix)
TheFatRat is making a name for himself by combing disco-funk with electro-house grit, and although his newer stuff has moved more towards electro-house, this Foster The People remix is a certified disco banger. And against all odds, he shows us exactly why we need another Gotye remix:
Foster The People – Don’t Stop (TheFatRat Remix)
Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (TheFatRat Remix)
Jean Tonique certainly has the french touch. His style of filter house is funky and completely infectious:
The Kooks – Naive (Jean Tonique Remix)
Justin Faust is another producer to keep an eye on in 2012, he’s coming into his own style of driving, pulsing, glittery pop-house:
Childish Gambino – Heartbeat (Justin Faust Remix)
Closing out this week of Funk Me are two slow burning, sultry, disco tunes for you’re listening pleasure:
Adele – Set Fire To The Rain (Plastic Plates Remix)
Funk off,
-Imarami
